V8 Supercars – round 1 – si riparte da Abu Dhabi

Il v8 Supercars riparte questo fine settimana con la prima manche stagionale ad Abu Dhabi. Sul tilkodromo arabo vedremo al via Courtney, sulla nera Holden del team HRT, il suo sostituto sulla Ford Jim Beam, James Moffat, Will Davison sulla Ford del team FPR e i soliti protagonisti del campionato.

Non aspettatevi uno spettacolo eccezionale da questo primo round, soprattutto a causa del circuito, che lo stesso Courtney ha definito come privo di personalità. I poderosi V8 della serie basata in Australia offriranno gare sicuramente migliori su circuiti più interessanti, però questa potrebbe essere un’occasione per vedere una gara in diretta, perché l’appuntamento con le due manches è rispettivamente per sabato e domenica, sempre alle ore 15.30 circa italiane.

Il favorito d’obbligo per le gare di Yas Marina e il solito Jamie Whincup, vincitore di entrambe le manches nel 2010, che difficilmente cederà il passo quest’anno.

Whincup è il mio favorito (scontato) anche per il campionato, anche se non mi dispiacerebbe vedere questo pronostico tra “le ultime parole famose”, perché vorrebbe dire lotta serrata e l’inserimento di qualche concorrente come Winterbottom, lo stesso Courtney , Lowndes o magari, ma questo è veramente un long shot, Van Gisbergen e Will Davison.

    “To be honest, the track is very boring to drive … in that it has zero character,” 30-year-old Courtney said in comments quoted by AAP.
    “All the good circuits are the ones that are old and beaten up with walls where they shouldn’t be and that sort of stuff.
    “The new circuits that they’re building for Formula One such as Yas have 1000km of run-off, they’re dead-flat, there’s no bumps, there’s no character to the place.”
    Courtney’s comments chime with those of Team Lotus technical head Mike Gascoyne, who last week said design flaws in Gulf circuits encouraged boring races with little overtaking.
    “Bahrain and Abu Dhabi were the two most boring races [of 2010],” he said.
    “It’s pretty disappointing that you’ve got two massively boring races on circuits where you had literally carte blanche to do anything you liked. You could have had elevation change or moved sand wherever you want it.”
